When talking about collagen lamps being used for anti-aging purposes in a tanning salon, we're referring to visible red light that is UV-free. At a wavelength of 620 to 700nm, the red light of collagen lamps penetrates human tissue to a depth of about 8-10 mm. Skin layers easily absorb red light because of the high blood and water content. Red light photo therapy is extremely beneficial in treating problems close to the surface of the skin, such as wrinkles, age spots, broken capillaries, wounds, cuts, scars, and some skin conditions such as rosacea.

Does LED light therapy hurt?
NO! Unlike many other anti-aging treatments, LED light therapy is gentle, painless, safe, non-invasive and non-abrasive. There have been no reports of adverse reactions. According to the FDA, red light at 633nm has a *non-significant risk* status and is completely safe for the eyes. Red light penetrates tissue to a depth of 8 * 10 mm, delivering energy to stimulate a response from the body to heal itself.
Does the red light bed tan?
No. The red light therapy lamps do not transmit any UV light.
Should I use it before or after tanning?
Yes, you may use the red light therapy bed the same day you tan. In fact, it is recommended that it be used before tanning, since the red light therapy brings blood to the surface of your skin and produces a better tan through increased oxidation of melanin.
How long will I have to use an LED light before I see results?
Some people see results in as little as a few days and others take a month or two to notice a change. Various physical conditions, age, skin condition, diet, alcohol consumption, prescription drug usage, smoking, exercise, and other factors influence the rate of improvement. The effects of LED light are often subtle at first, since unlike lasers, peels and other ablative treatments, LED light does not damage the skin to force it to regenerate. Your results will improve the longer you use the light; so though you should see improvement in 60 days, you should see a much more significant change after you've been using it for 6 months or a year.
Do I need protective eyewear?
Due to the intensity of the light protective eyewear is recommended.
